MASON DAVIS OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior defender from Albuquerque, N.M., has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 19th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 3)
Davis helped anchor a Colorado College defense that conceded just one goal in two games as the Tigers earned a pair of home non-conference conference victories over the Austin College and Dallas last weekend. In Friday’s 5-0 win over the ‘Roos, the CC defense allowed just six total shots, only one of which was on target. During Sunday’s 3-1 win over the Crusaders, the Tigers limited UD to five shots, three of which were on frame. The only goal conceded during the two games was on a penalty kick. Davis also struck for the first two goals of his career, one in each game, and now ranks fourth on the team with two goals and fifth with five points.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Goncalo Pernas of Dallas registered eight saves in a tough 3-1 road loss at Colorado College last Sunday. Junior midfielder Kevin Fernandez of Schreiner helped lead a Mountaineer defense that put forth one of its best performances of the season in a 2-1 double overtime loss last Saturday. Freshman defender Luke Malone of Southwestern played the full 90 minutes, anchoring a Pirate backline and brought a level of composure to the game in a 1-0 shutout victory against Concordia last Friday night. Sophomore goalkeeper Noel Pena of Texas Lutheran recorded his third shutout of the season, maintaining a clean sheet with three saves in the Bulldogs 9-0 win over McMurry last Sunday. Junior defender JonConnor Rule of Trinity has continued to be the staple of the Tiger defense this season that allowed just one goal in a pair of wins last weekend. Rule stopped multiple attacks and even chested a ball that was headed towards the goal during the Concordia fixture that would have changed the course of the match.
