ESTACADA, Ore. -- Colorado College sophomore Will Shuflit, the league's Runner-of-the-Year, finished fifth individually at the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Meet at Milo McIver Park, leading the CC men to a fifth-place team finish and automatically qualified for next weekend's NCAA Division III National Championships. Shuflit, who won the SCAC Championship meet two weeks ago, completed Saturday's 8K race in a personal-best time of 24:15.7.
Junior Alex Klomparens finished in 17th place with a time of 24:37.7 to earn all-region honors, as did freshman Vincent Mangat (30th - 25:05.2) and junior Rabbit Barnes (32nd - 25:09.6).
Pomona-Pitzer claimed the Div. III West Regional for the seventh consecutive year and earned the automatic berth into next weekend’s NCAA championship meet with a team score of 42. Claremont Mudd-Scripps was second (101), George Fox was third (127), UC Santa Cruz was fourth (132), followed by Colorado College in fifth (138).
Trinity University scored 227 total points and finished eighth in the team standings - the third consecutive eighth-place finish for the Tiger men after spending two years outside of the top 10.
Senior Will Salony finished 11th with his time of 24:32.0 in Saturday's race, which makes him an All-Region runner for the third straight season. Salony is also expected to be officially named as a qualifier for the NCAA Championships meet tomorrow (Sunday), which would be his third time competing at cross country nationals.
The Tigers' Ryan Tresaugue finished second behind Salony, crossing the line in a time of 25:24.6 that is his best of the 2024 season, and put him in 41st place.
Although University of Dallas did not have enough runners to score, the Crusaders received a huge All-Region finish from first-year Alexander Bozhilov, who placed 16th in a time of 24:44.2.
After two straight years of finishing in 18th at the Region X regional meet, Southwestern University improved this year to 17th with 501 total team points. The Pirates were led by senior Brian Armijo who finished 73rd in a time of 26:04.2.
University of St. Thomas finished with 550 points to finish 20th which was also a one place improvement from a year ago. The Celts were paced by first-year Johnathan Castro who was 66th in at time of 25:59.2.
First-year Miguel Hernandez led Texas Lutheran University to a 23rd place finish with his 98th place finish (26:32.6), the fastest time in an NCAA Regional in program history. Senior Thomas Hughes paced Concordia University (Texas) to a 24th place finish, completing his final career cross country race with a 108th place finish in 26:45.6.
McMurry University did not have enough runners to score but did see senior Patrick Esparza place 134th for the War Hawks in a time of 27:37.7.
At the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships in Rock Island, Ill., University of the Ozarks junior Daniel Sanderson represented the men's cross country team and posted a time of 27:29.3 to place 135th overall. Complete Results
The winning team from each of the 10 regions automatically qualifies for the NCAA Division III National Championship, while 22 other teams from around the country will be selected as at-large bids. In addition, the top seven individuals that are not on teams selected also advance to the national meet. The team and individual selections to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 17.
The NCAA Division III National Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23, in Terre Haute, Ind.
