COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado College's Andrew Harwood, who graduated in May with a degree in economics, was recognized for his combined accomplishments in the classroom and on the field by being named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/Warrior and New Balance Scholar All-Americnn.
Harwood, who compiled a 3.2 grade-point average, was one of only 79 Division III student-athletes nationwide to earn the award.
"This is a great honor for Andrew," head coach Sean Woods said. "It demonstrates how hard he worked on his studies as well as being an outstanding goalie and leader of our team."
The senior goaltender posted a 6-0 record during the abbreviated 2020 season. He ranked fifth nationally with a 5.24 goals-against average and sixth with a 0.682 saves percentage.
In what proved to be the final game of his career, the native of Bronxville, N.Y., made a season-high 16 saves in the 14-10 win over Baldwin Wallace University, his 25th game with double-digit saves.
Harwood was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the first time after allowing just six goals during road wins at Sewanee (14-4) and Berry College (18-4). He scored the honor again after giving up only three goals in 45 minutes during the 17-5 victory over Aurora University.
To qualify for the USILA's highest academic award, a nominee must be a senior with a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. He also must be an All-American, a member of a North-South All-Star team or an outstanding league or conference player.
Finally, recipients will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution and to college lacrosse both on and off the field.
The USILA's Scholar All-America Program was established in 1989 to recognize student-athletes from member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities.
