CALEB PEIMANN OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior from Juneau, Alaska, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Monday, January 8 to Sunday, January 14. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 9)
Peimann was the team's leading backstroker this week as the Tigers competed with three SCIAC schools. In the double dual with Chapman and Occidental, he won both the 100 back (53.44) and 200 back (1:58.41), and was part of two second-place relays (47.7 split on 400 FR, and 24.99 backstroke on 200 MR). Earlier in the week vs Pomona-Pitzer, Peimann was second in 200 back (2:00.93), third in 100 back (54.79), and part of the second-place 200 free relay team (21.89).
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior Alex Lai of Austin College had four very solid swims at the 2024 Austin College Invitational against UT-Permian Basin, Centenary, St. Thomas and McMurry. Lai swam a 56.86 in the butterfly leg of the 400 medley relay and posted individual finishes of 1:04.40 (fourth place) in the 100 breast, 22.92 in the 50 free (fourth place), and 55.87 in the 100 fly (third place). Senior Antonio Barbee of Centenary claimed a pair of individual wins in last Wednesday's home meet against Millsaps, winning both the 1000 free (11:20.22) and 500 free (5:39.45). He was also runner-up in the 100 fly (57.73). On Saturday at the Austin College Invitational, Barbee recorded a pair of top-10 finishes. First-year Charles Wallace of St. Thomas led the Celts and all DIII swimmers in the 100 free and 100 butterfly at the Austin College Invitational. The freshman finished the 100 free in a time of 50.32, and the 100 fly in 55.48 to pace all DIII swimmers in both races. First-year Nick Freeman of Southwestern placed second in the 200 free and third in the 500 free at Friday's dual meet against DI Incarnate Word. First-year Aiden Wardy of McMurry was the War Hawks highest-placed swimmer at the Austin College Invitational over the weekend as he took third in the 1650 free. Wardy also placed fifth in the 200 back and sixth in the 200 IM as his individual efforts helped lead McMurry to a second-place team finish.
