JAMES SETTLES OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a senior from Claremont, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets run from Friday, October 13 through Saturday, October 14. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 7)
Settles finished second individually with a school record time and led the Colorado College men's cross country to a seventh-place finish among 43 Division III teams Saturday at the prestigious Augustana Invitational in Rock Island, Ill. Settles, who finished 60th at this meet last season, covered the 8K race in 24 minutes, 20.8 seconds, nine seconds faster than the previous school record of 24:29, set by Scott Kang in 1986. Settles finished just 1.5 seconds behind meet winner Christian Patzka of Wisconsin-Whitewater and eight seconds ahead of the third-place runner.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Jhancarlos Carpio of St. Thomas led the Celts at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, finishing with a time of 25:38.2 at the 8K race - good for 41st place in the 300+ runner field. First-year Nathan Sandelovic of Texas Lutheran ran a 37 second PR at the ACU Naimadu Classic to finish in 30th place with a time of 27:46.5. In just the second 8K of his career, he has positioned himself in the 13th spot on TLU's all-time performance list. Sophomore Nathaniel Trevnio of Trinity ran a PR of 25:47 at the Augustana Interregional Invitational, despite non-ideal course conditions. He was Trinity's third scorer, which is his best-ever placement for the team. Senior Nico Walz of Dallas ran a 28:39 at the ACU Naimadu Classic, competing against competition from all divisions and associations.
