SAM MCCLURE OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from The Woodlands, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played through Tuesday, February 18. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 1)
McClure earned medalist honors at the spring opening TPC San Antonio DIII Shoot-out, contested over the Canyons and Oaks courses at the TPC San Antonio. His opening round 68 (-4) was the low round of the event and he finished with rounds of 39 and 75 to post a final score of 180 (-1) - the only competitor in the 67-player field to finish under par. Monday's second round was shortened to nine holes after frost forced a delay in getting in the first 18 holes.
McClure led the field in pars (32) and finished with six birdies (tied for 12th) and one eagle. His performance led the 13th-ranked Pirates to a second-place team finish, just two shots behind team champion Redlands.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Antonio Ramirez of St. Thomas fired rounds of 73-38-76 to finish at 187 (+6) and in a tie for sixth on the individual leaderboard to pace the Celts to a fourth-place team finish at the San Antonio DIII Shoot-out. Senior Tobey Wills of Texas Lutheran, along with his senior teammate Van Miller, led the Bulldogs to a third-place team finish at the San Antonio DIII Shoot-out. Both finished in the Top 10 among individuals with a 54-hole score of 188 (+7) to finish tied with two other players for eighth place. Senior CJ Reitmeyer of Concordia (Texas) paced the Tornados at the DIII Shoot-out, finishing in a tie for 12th with a final total of 189 (+8). Junior Matthew McKenzie of Schreiner was the top scorer for the Mountaineers at the TPC San Antonio DIII Shoot-out. He was tied for third after his opening round 72 and improved 10 slots on Tuesday to finish at +10 (191). Sophomore Kendrick Hoster of McMurry was tops for the War Hawks at the DIII Shoot-out, finishing in a tie for 23rd-place after rounds of 75-38-80 (193, +12). Senior Rex Soullier of Dallas finished at +14 (195), climbing 12 spots on Tuesday, to post a top 30 finish.
