JESSICA MASON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior from Westminster, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Wednesday, February 17 through Tuesday, February 25. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 2)
Mason shot a one-under score of 141 (72-69) as the 24th-ranked Tigers cruised to the Space City Classic team title, finishing with a two-day score of 610 (303-307) and 22 shots ahead of second-place Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Mason carded six birdies in Tuesday's final round to shoot the only under-par round of the event. She birdied three of the last four holes on the back nine after starting at the par-4 11th and then had three more birdies to shoot 33 (three-under) on the front nine holes of the course.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Sydney Jackson of Southwestern led the Pirates to a third-place finish at the Space City Classic, and carded a two-day total of 156 (78-78) to finish tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard. She finished tied for third in the field in scoring on Par 4s (+9) and carded 19 pars (tied for sixth). First-year Leah Torres of St. Thomas helped the Celts to a fifth-place team finish at the Space City Classic, leading her team with a two-day total of 161 which was good for a top 10 individual finish. Her final round 76 was tied for the third-lowest round of the day and catapulted her 16 places up the leaderboard. Senior Kimberly Burch of Dallas placed 14th out of the 48-player field with a two-round score of 164 (+22) at the Space City Classic. Sophomore Abby Yanta of Schreiner led the Mountaineers at the Space City Classic, finishing tied for 23rd after rounds of 85 and 84 for a two-day total of 169 (+27).
