SEGUIN, Texas – Second-seeded Trinity University narrowly held back the St. Thomas comeback bid as the Tigers tallied a 3-2 victory over the Celts in second round play at the 2024 SCAC Softball championship on Friday night to advance to the winner's brackets championship game. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trinity opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second when the Tigers raced out to a 3-0 lead.
- The Tigers' Peyton Bowser delivered an RBI single to left-center before Angela Baltzell added an RBI single to left field. Samantha Tagawa added an RBI on a fielder's choice to pad the Trinity lead.
- It remained 3-0 until the top of the fifth. That's when St. Thomas began its comeback attempt. With runners on first and second, Jaelyn Simmons tallied a two-run double to left field that cut the Trinity lead to 3-2.
- The Tigers did not allow the Celts to get any closer as Trinity quietly retired St. Thomas in the sixth and seventh innings without much threat.
