Thomas Fleming, University of Dallas, Player of the Week (Week 2)

THOMAS FLEMING OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a sophomore guard from Carlsbad, Calif., has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, November 11 through Sunday, November 17. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 2)

Fleming willed the Crusaders to a dominate 81-68 victory over East Texas Baptist on Saturday in the team's home opener and only game of the week.

Dallas led by 18 at one point and Fleming, who finished the contest with 26 points, put together a flurry of points down the stretch - nearly matching his first half total to scave off a second half comeback by the Tigers. The sophomore helped ice the game by going 6-for-6 from the line in the game's waning minutes, and shot 75 percent from the floor (9-of-12) and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe in the contest. He also chipped in with two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Graduate guard Beau Cervantes of Schreiner averaged 27.0 points and blistered the nets at a 78.9 percent clip from three-point range during a weekend split for the Mountaineers in California. After the team dropped a 116-100 decision to Redlands, Cervantes helped his team bounce back with a career-high 30 points on a career-high tying eight three-pointers, only missing one from beyond the arc, in the 95-82 win at Occidental College. The graduate guard scored 22 of his 30 points in the second half, and added five rebounds, four assists, and a block. Senior guard Jackson Rennie of Austin College, in the team's lone game of the week, led the 'Roos with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including hitting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and all three of his free throw attempts, as the 'Roos pulled out the 82-74 road win at Lyon College. Rennie added three rebounds in the victory. Sophomore forward Nicholas Buffalo of St. Thomas delivered a pair of standout performances this week, averaging 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 60.0 percent from the field as the Celts defeated both Howard Payne (95-85) and Hardin-Simmons 62-55). Despite coming off the bench, he totaled 24 points, 14 rebounds, two steals, and a block across two games, showcasing his efficiency. Senior guard Craig Collier of Centenary had a fantastic week for the Gents as he averaged 19.3 points in three home games, highlighted by a career-best 29 points in a 75-64 win over Texas College last Tuesday. Collier shot 45.0 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 86.7 percent from the free throw line for the week with 16 rebounds, 10 assists, and two steals. Junior guard James Mathews of University of the Ozarks averaged 16.5 points per game while not missing a free throw all weekend (15-of-15) as the Eagles split a pair of games. Mathews averaged 3.0 steals per game while only turning the ball over one time, and shot 47.4 percent from the field. Senior guard Keno Thompson of McMurry had 21 points, four rebounds and two assists as the War Hawks dropped an 81-79 decision to crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons on Monday, the team's only game of the week. Senior forward Devin Philio of Colorado College matched his career-high of 20 points, which he recorded only a week ago, and led the Tigers with his 20 points, five rebounds and no turnovers in Saturday's 72-68 loss to Hanover. He played a season-high 31 minutes and shot 75 percent from the floor (9-for-12). Junior guard Mason Wallace of Texas Lutheran had 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Bulldogs dropped a 92-69 decision at Mary Hardin-Baylor - the team's only action of the week.
