Lauren Powell, Southwestern University, Co-Defensive Player of the Week (Week 8)

LAUREN POWELL OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior defender from Harlingen, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 14th through Sunday, October 20th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 8)

Powell anchored a Southwestern defense that produced a pair of key SCAC shutout victories at home last week, defeating Texas Lutheran, 1-0, and knocking off St. Thomas, 4-0. Powell and the Pirates secured six points in the league table with the two wins and remained alone in second place with 15 points in conference action to date. Behind the leadership of Powell, the Pirates limited opponents to just six shots on target, including zero in the win over the Celts. Southwestern has now produced six shutouts on the year, including four in league play. Powell also jumped in offensively this week, providing the assists on the game-winning goal in the win over St. Thomas.

Powell shares this week's honor with Concordia senior defender Kaelyn Riley.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:

Sophomore midfielder Emma Boehmke of Austin College had a stellar weekend from her defensive midfield position, helping the 'Roos go 1-1 with a shutout win against Schreiner and a narrow 2-1 loss to Trinity. Boehmke scored the game-winner against the Mountaineers, and later added the assist on Austin College's insurance goal in the 2-0 victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Avery Anders of McMurry didn’t allow a single goal in over 117 minutes of action last weekend over tow fixtures to lead the War Hawks to a pair of key SCAC wins on the road against Ozarks and Centenary. Anders finished with one save and a perfect 1.000 save percentage. First year goalkeeper Jayden Ford of Schreiner made a pair of saves to help the Mountaineers post their second shutout of the season and securing a 1-0 win over Dallas on the road on Sunday. In total, Ford finished the week with seven saves and a .778 save percentage. Junior defender Clara Richards of Trinity was a key factor on both sides of the ball in the Tigers’ two road wins last weekend. Against Dallas, Richards helped anchor a defense that only allowed two shots all game and record a shutout and then against Austin College, Clara put in the crucial game winning goal to secure the victory for the Tigers.
