BENJAMIN LUDWIG OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior right-handed pitcher from Austin, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, April 5 through Sunday, April 11
Ludwig pitched a complete-game nine-inning victory over 14th-ranked Centenary, giving up just four runs on six hits with five strikeouts as the Pirates earned the 5-4 victory.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore right-hander JT Taylor of Texas Lutheran pitched five quality innings in a conference victory at Dallas on Sunday. Taylor was the winning pitcher after starting and going five innings. He allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out six and walking three. He also pitched a scoreless inning and had a strikeout in the mid-week road win over Concordia Texas. For the week, Taylor averaged 10.80 strikeouts per nine innings and had an ERA of 1.50. Senior right-hander Branden Hance of Trinity collected one of the Tigers' three victories from the mound this week, pitched five shutout innings across two relief appearances in the series victory over Schreiner. The Tiger senior right-hander allowed just three hits, one walk in his work and added five strikeouts for good measure. Junior right-hander Tyler Montemayor of Dallas logged four innings of relief, earning the win after the Crusaders tied things back in the 10th walked it off for the second time on the season in the 11th to knock off Texas Lutheran in game one of a three-game series. Montemayor worked around four hits and two walks, while striking out two.
