JOHNNA CAMPBELL OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a freshman goalkeeper from Katy, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, April 4th.
Campbell posted her third-straight shutout making four saves in Southwestern’s 1-0 win over Centenary last Saturday to help secure three important points in the league standings. The Ladies entered the fixture against the Pirates tied for the most team goals in the SCAC with 20 and were held off the scoresheet for just the second time this season. Campbell is currently riding a 272:42 shutout streak, dating back to March 7th.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defender Bekah Gonzales of Dallas anchored a Crusader backline that posted their third shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over St. Thomas. Gonzales and the Dallas defense limited the Celts to 11 total shots and just two on target. Sophomore defender Nyah Shepherd of Trinity was a key member of the Tiger defense that allowed just 11 shots in two games, only three of which were on goal in two victories last week.
