SYDNEY WAHL OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a first-year from Vancouver, British Columbia, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, March 22 to Sunday, March 28.
Wahl defeated Austin College's Sierra Thomas in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 singles, then posted another big win in a match against the top-ranked junior college in the nation, defeating Tyler Junior College's Momoko Yoshimura (1-6, 7-5, 10-5). She now has a 5-0 record against scholarship schools this season.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Cate Cushing of Trinity finished off Trinity's narrow 5-4 loss to St. Mary's with her victory at line three singles on Thursday night. Cushing won her third consecutive match of the season with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win, improving her overall singles record to 5-5 on the year. Sophomore Alejandra Lopez of St. Thomas earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at line two against D1 Prairie View's Jimena Castellanos. Senior Mary Eby of Texas Lutheran won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles against Sul Ross State, and she was up 6-1, 2-1 at No. 1 singles against a University of the Ozarks player when the match was called due to a team win for Ozarks.
