LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- In an announcement made today from conference headquarters, Southwestern University’s Steven Tibbetts was named the 2022 SCAC Men's Tennis Elite 19 award winner.
Tibbetts, a junior from Austin, Texas, currently holds a 3.984 GPA in Economics, with a minor in Communication Studies, and earned First Team All-SCAC honors this season. He finished the year with a 14-6 overall record with much of his play coming at the No. 4 singles flight. Tibbetts is the 11th different Southwestern student-athlete to earn an Elite 19 honor all-time, and the second Pirate this academic year, joining Juliet Pridgen who won the Women’s Soccer Elite 19 honor in the fall.
This is the third time in the last four years a Pirate has earned the Men’s Tennis Elite 19 honor, following Alexis Demanche who was honored in 2019 and 2020.
Established prior to the 2018-19 academic year and meant to recognize the best of the best within each of the league's 19 sponsored sports as it relates to both academic and athletic achievement, the SCAC Elite 19 is awarded to the student-athlete who has completed the equivalent of at least 60 credit hours at his or her current institution and has at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA. The student-athlete must also have earned All-SCAC First, Second or Third Team honors in his/her sport for that particular season.
