Southwestern's Tibbetts Wins Second Consecutive SCAC Men's Tennis Elite 19 Award

SUWANEE, Ga. -- In an announcement made today from conference headquarters, Southwestern University’s Steven Tibbetts was named the 2023 SCAC Men's Tennis Elite 19 award winner. It is the second consecutive year he has won the award.

Tibbetts, a senior from Austin, Texas, currently holds a 3.988 GPA in Economics, with a minor in Communication Studies, and earned First Team All-SCAC honors this season - his second consecutive First Team selection. He finished the year with a 12-7 overall record with much of his play coming at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles line.

Along with Alli Ziehm on the women's side, Southwestern swept both Elite 19 tennis awards this spring - giving the institution its 22nd and 23rd all-time winners of the award, the most of any SCAC institution. and the third and fourth Pirate this academic year, joining Emma White who won the Volleyball Elite 19 honor in the fall and Sam Anderson who won the Men's Swimming & Diving Elite 19 honor in the winter.

This is the fourth time in the last five years a Pirate has earned the Men’s Tennis Elite 19 honor, following Alexis Demanche who was honored in 2019 and 2020.

Established prior to the 2018-19 academic year and meant to recognize the best of the best within each of the league's 19 sponsored sports as it relates to both academic and athletic achievement, the SCAC Elite 19 is awarded to the student-athlete who has completed the equivalent of at least 60 credit hours at his or her current institution and has at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA. The student-athlete must also have earned All-SCAC First or Second Team honors in his/her sport for that particular season.
