JOHNNA CAMPBELL OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior goalkeeper from Katy, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 17th through Sunday, October 23rd. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 8)
Campbell steadied a defense that pitched a pair of road shutouts last weekend, defeating Austin College and Dallas. Campbell and the Pirate's defense has shut out four of their last six opponents. She collected four saves playing in the full 90 minutes of each contest and currently sits fifth in the league in both saves (51) and GAA (1.28).
Junior defender Melissa Landon of Schreiner played the full 90 minutes in both road matches last week as the Mountaineers secured four key points and locked in a top four spot in the SCAC Tournament for the first time since 2016. Freshman midfielder Ashlyn Suarez of Texas Lutheran was a steady presence, holding the middle of the pitch for the Bulldogs in a pair of SCAC wins last week. Suarez and TLU have now won five-straight heading into the final weekend of the regular season. Senior defender Emma Everts of Trinity led the Tigers to a pair of SCAC shutout wins on the road against St. Thomas and Centenary last weekend. Everts and the Tiger defense allowed just six total shots (three in each game) to the opposition, extending the team's winning streak to 15 straight games - including 12 consecutive shutouts.
