Southwestern Holds Slim Lead After Day One of SCAC Women's Golf Championship

BLANCO, Texas -- A pair of top 20 teams sit atop the leaderboard as 20th-ranked Southwestern University holds a slim one-shot lead over 13th-ranked Trinity University after Monday's first round of the 2021 SCAC Women's Golf Championship at Vaaler Creek Golf Club. Official Championship Website | Women's Results | Photo Gallery

Tomorrow's final round at the par-72, 5,885-yard layout will begin at 8 a.m.

After the first 18 holes, Southwestern is sitting at 319 (+31), one shot ahead of Trinity University which finished with a first-round 320 (+32). University of St. Thomas is third with a 336 (+48).

Southwestern's Madison Goldberg shot an even par 72 to take a six shot lead in the race for individual honors. Trinity teammates Kiona Hsiu and Erin Flynn also shot in the 70s, posting rounds of 78 and 79, respectively, to pace the Tigers.

Goldberg and teammate Katherine Montgomery, along with St. Thomas' Courtney Kruase, lead the field in birdies with three each.

Rounding out the first round team standings, Schreiner University is fourth with a first round score of 402 (+114) and Centenary is fifth with a 424 (+136).
