BRIAN ARMIJO OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Albuquerque, N.M., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 1)

Armijo raced to a new 5k PR (even considering track times) of 15:31 at Friday's home meet. He finished 16th overall, beating out all other D2 and D3 competition at the Southwestern/Concordia Opener. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior James Urbina of St. Thomas shined at the Celt Opener this past week taking first place over three mile course. The senior posted a fast time of 15:36, clearing five Division 1 runners and four more Celt participants in the process. Senior Nico Walz pf Dallas posted at time 17:29.5 at the 3-mile Nicole Leman XC Invitational. He placed 20th at the meet. Junior Will Salony of Trinity finished eighth individually at the UIW Twilight Opener on Friday night, leading the Tigers to a 17-second average improvement from the same meet last year. Salony crossed the line in 18:48.8 for the best Division III time in the race. First-year Ruben Medrano of Schreiner paced the Mountaineers with a 69th place finish along the 5K course at the Southwestern/Concordia Opener, finishing in a team-best time of 19:07.7.
