GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Top-seeded and 18th-ranked Southwestern University opened play at the Southern College Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championship with a 5-0 quarterfinal victory over eighth-seeded University of Dallas Friday afternoon at the Marvin D. With the victory, Southwestern improves to 17-5 and advances to play University of St. Thomas in tomorrow's second men's semifinal. First serve is scheduled for Noon CT.
Dallas, which reinstated the sport of men's tennis after having been dormant since 2005, ends its inaugural season back on the courts with an 0-13 mark.
The Pirates cruised to three doubles wins, led by an 8-0 shutout on the No. 3 line with Drew Shuvalov and Steven Tibbetts.
Jared Burton picked up the first singles point for Southwestern with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of UD's Victor Salvo and Rylan Hastings closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Gabe Saldivar.

Southwestern advances to play University of St. Thomas in tomorrow's second men's semifinal. First serve is scheduled for Noon CT. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools in SCAC tournament play, but Southwestern did earn a 6-3 regular season victory over UST on Feb. 11.
