Trinity Advances to SCAC Final With 1-0 Victory Over Southwestern

HOUSTON, Texas – A first half goal by Michaela Bosco proved to be the game-winner as top-seeded Trinity University advanced to the program's 16th consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament final and defeated fourth-seeded Southwestern University, 1-0, in Friday's first women's semifinal of the 2024 SCAC Soccer Championships at SaberCats Stadium. Official Championships Website | Tournament Stats | Interview w/ Trinity Head Coach Dylan Harrison and Michaela Bosco | Photos 

Bosco, a senior forward, scored an unassisted goal in the eighth minute to put Trinity on the board, a goal which would proved to all the Tigers would need to advance to Sunday's final. The goal was her fourth of the season and sixth of her tournament career, which is the fourth-most of any player in conference history.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trinity outshot Southwestern 21-6, which included a 12-1 advantage in the first half.
  • Trinity also held a 7-2 advantage on corners as well as a 53 to 47 percent possession advantage.

NOTABLES

  • Trinity improves to 29-1-2 all-time in SCAC Tournament history and has not allowed a goal in its last 16 tournament contests.
  • Trinity is now 7-0-1 all-time against Southwestern in the conference tournament, which included a 1-0 shutout the last time the two met in the 2023 championship match.
  • Southwestern falls to 6-10-5 all-time in the SCAC tournament and has been eliminated by Trinity in three of its last four appearances.
  • With the win, Trinity will play in its 16th consecutive SCAC final. Trinity is 13-1-1 in its previous 15 title game appearances.
  • Southwestern will ends its season with a mark of 9-7-1.

UP NEXT

With the victory, Trinity (15-2-2) will face the winner of second-seeded Texas Lutheran and third-seeded Concordia (Texas) in Sunday’s championship match. During the regular season, Trinity defeated Concordia, 1-0, on Oct. 6 in Austin and Texas Lutheran, 2-0, five days later in San Antonio.
