MOFE ARIYO OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from Toronto, Canada, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week from Monday, October 2nd through Sunday, October 8th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 6)
Ariyo scored twice last weekend to lead the Pirates to a pair of critical SCAC wins over St. Thomas (1-0) and Centenary (2-0). Ariyo rang home the game-winner against the Celts and scored the insurance marker in Southwestern’s victory over the Gents. The two wins vaulted the Pirates to a tie atop the table in the SCAC standings with nine points. Ariyo now has a career-high four goals this season and this past weekend marked just the second time in his career he has scored in back-to-back fixtures. He is now tied for the Pirate lead with 11 points on four goals and three assists this year, tied for ninth best in the SCAC.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Zaaron Gonzalez of Schreiner scored his third goal of the season in a 1-1 draw against Dallas to secure the Mountaineers first SCAC point on the season. Gonzalez now has 10 points on the year to lead Schreiner. Junior midfielder Louis Hart of Texas Lutheran scored the game-winning goal in the Bulldogs 5-0 win over Centenary and dished out an assist in a tough 3-2 loss at St. Thomas. Senior midfielder Jack Downes of Trinity had a goal and an assist over the weekend, assisting on the eventual game-winner against Dallas. He then scored the second goal in Sunday's win over Austin to lift the Tigers to a 3-1-0 record in league play and tied atop the conference table with nine total points.
