NINA MITROFANOVA OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Conroe, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, April 18 to Sunday, April 24. (SCAC Women's Tennis Weekly Report - Week 12)
Mitrofanova won The Ojai singles championship, defeating Redlands' Kendall Bolock 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the final match. Seeded first overall, she earned a first-round bye and defeated Cal Lutheran's Mina Ahmadi 6-0, 6-0 in the second round on Thursday. Mitrofanova followed that with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Chapman's Aliya Allyn in the quarterfinals on Friday, and carried the momentum over into the semifinals, defeating Redland's Olivia Rockwood in three sets by a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Christina Heffron of Colorado College went 3-0 at No. 1 singles, without dropping a set against Austin, McMurry and Hardin-Simmons, all on the road. Junior Alejandra Lopez of St. Thomas went an outstanding 3-0 on the weekend, taking wins at ETBU, Letourneau, and SCAC opponent Austin College. This was highlighted by a convincing 7-5, 6-0 win in line one against Austin College. Junior Victoria Morales of Schreiner defeated TLU's Kaitlyn Enloe, 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 2 line as the Mountaineers swept the Bulldogs, 9-0, on Saturday.
