Burke was phenomenal last week, leading the Pirates to a pair of SCAC wins at home, defeating Centenary on Friday before knocking off St. Thomas on Saturday. In the win over the Ladies, Burke finished with 13 points in just 17 minutes of action. She connected on 4-of-8 shooting, including 60 percent from long range, knocking down a career-high three three-point field goals. Burke also grabbed three rebounds against Centenary. The next day, Burke poured in a career-high 22 points on a remarkable 10-of-17 shooting in the win over the Celts. The 10 made field goals is career best for Burke. She also added a career-high eight rebounds, four steals and one assist. On the week, Burke led the Pirates in scoring in both games, averaging 17.5 points on 56 percent shooting, and added 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 0.5 assists per night. Her efforts have helped the Pirates get off to a perfect 4-0 start in SCAC play for the first time since the 2014-15 season and their current five game win streak is the longest since the 2017-18 season.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year forward Kyra Stokes of Centenary averaged 12 points and nine rebounds in a pair of games last week for the Ladies, highlighted by a season-high 16 points and 12 rebounds in a loss to Texas Lutheran. It marked her first career double-double. Sophomore forward Zoe Tomlinson of Colorado College continued her strong start to the season, averaging 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds to help the Tigers split a pair of contests last week. Tomlinson scored 18 in a win over SCAC foe Dallas and then poured in 19 in a tough loss against No. 5 Christopher Newport on Sunday. Sophomore guard Demauria Miles of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to an impressive 66-62 victory over St. Mary’s last week, scoring 17 points on 66.7 percent shooting. It marked the eighth time this season, Miles has reached the 15-point plateau. She also added three steals and two rebounds in the win. Sophomore guard Kayla Presley of Texas Lutheran was outstanding leading the Bulldogs to a pair of SCAC victories last week, averaging 11.5 points per game on 64.3 percent shooting, including a season-high 16 in a 21-point win over St. Thomas. Presley also averaged 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.5 blocks per game in the two wins.
