Samantha Hazen, Southwestern University, Offensive Player of the Week (Week 6)

SAMANTHA HAZEN OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from Northbridge, Mass., has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 30th through Sunday, October 6th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 6)

Hazen had an outstanding weekend, lifting Southwestern to a perfect 2-0 start in SCAC play for the third time in the last four years, securing wins over Austin College on the road on Friday and then knocking off Dallas at home on Sunday. In the 2-0 win over the ‘Roos on Friday, Hazen assisted on the game-winning tally and then came back on Sunday and registered a brace, scoring twice in the 4-1 win over the Crusaders. This weekend marked the first points on the season for Hazen, who finished with five on two goals and one assist, and the third time in her career and first since the 2022 season she has scored multiple goals in the same contest.  
 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First year forward Emma Payne of Concordia shined in her SCAC debut, leading the Tornados to a 5-0 win over Schreiner, registering a hat trick, including scoring the game-winning goal. It marked the first hat trick for a Tornado since Kallie Krenz tallied one against Sul Ross St. back in October of 2023. First year midfielder Cienna Rodriguez of McMurry led the War Hawks to a key SCAC victory, scoring her first collegiate goal in a 1-0 win over Schriner on the road on Sunday. Rodriguez scored in the 44th minute on an unassisted tally that held of for the win. First year forward Fernanda Alvarado of St. Thomas led the Celts to an SCAC win in their only fixture of the week. Alvardo scored twice, her first multigoal effort in her career, to secure a 2-0 win over Centenary last Friday on the road. First year forward Lilly Noblett of Texas Lutheran helped lift the Bulldogs to a perfect 2-0 week in SCAC play, securing wins over Dallas on the road on Friday and Austin College at home on Sunday. In the win over the Crusaders, Noblett registered a brace, recording her first multi goal performance of her career and now has three goals in her last three games and is tied for fourth in the SCAC with four goals on the year. First year midfielder Alex Doran of Trinity led the Tigers to a pair of SCAC victories over the weekend, defeating McMurry at home and then taking down Concordia (TX) on the road. Doran netted the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win on Sunday at Concordia, which was her second game-winning goal of the season.
