SUWANEE, Ga. -- The seeds and pairings are now set for the 2023 SCAC Women’s Soccer Tournament following the completion of the regular season schedule on Sunday, October 29. In conjunction with the culmination of the regular season, the Women’s Soccer Championship website has been launched, which contains schedules, brackets and information related to the participating teams. Trinity University, who finished with a perfect 7-0-0 league mark and 21 points, have been the top seed 12 times since the conference reinstated a postseason soccer tournament prior to the 2011 season. The Tigers posted their 14th unblemished SCAC regular season in the last 15 years and 26th in program history. The defending champions of this event, Trinity has won 12 of the last 13 SCAC women's soccer tournaments. The Tigers (10-4-2 overall) are currently ranked seventh in the NCAA Region 10 rankings.
Texas Lutheran University posted a 5-1-1 mark for 16 points to secure the second seed in this weekend's conference tournament. Qualifying for its 11th consecutive SCAC Tournament, Texas Lutheran has advanced to the championship final four times over that stretch, including last season when the Bulldogs dropped a 4-0 decision to Trinity in the title match. TLU secured the second seed with a 4-2 victory over Southwestern University on Friday.
After Friday's regular season finale, Southwestern completed the regular season with a 4-2-1 league mark and 13 points to settle in at third place in the conference standings. The Pirates are making their 12th consecutive post season appearance, which has included five title game appearances with the last coming in 2021 when SU won the regular season title. Southwestern secured the program's only tournament championship in 2019.
Rounding out the field in the 2023 SCAC Tournament is the fourth-seed, University of Dallas, who returns to the postseason after missing out for the first time in four years last season. The Crusaders, who finished the regular season with a 4-3-0 conference record for 12 points, will be looking for their first tournament victory since advancing to the title match at the 2020-21 championships.
For the first time since 2011, the men's and women's soccer tournament will be played at the same site and SaberCats Stadium in Houston will serve as host of this year’s event. This year's championship is scheduled to open on Friday, November 3 at Noon CT when No. 1 Trinity takes on No. 4 Dallas in the opening semifinal fixture. The second semifinal is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT between No. 2 Texas Lutheran and No. 3 Southwestern. The two semifinal winners will meet on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
