Southwestern's Trombley Selected for NCAA Division III Presidents Council

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Southwestern (Texas) University President Dr. Laura Trombley has been appointed to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Presidents Council, the highest governing body in the division.

The Presidents Council establishes and directs the general policy of the Division, while also establishing Division III's strategic plan. Presidents Council has the ability to make recommendations to the Board of Governors, the Association's highest governing body, on matters related to Division III such as championships, and may approve the use of funds allocated to the Division. Additionally, Presidents Council may sponsor legislation independent of Management Council.

Hiram Chodosh, president at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, was also selected to the Council. Both Trombley and Chodosh begin four-year terms effective immediately.

Trombley is the first SCAC president to serve on the NCAA Division III Presidents Council since Stuart Dorsey of Texas Lutheran University, whose term expired upon his retirement in 2019. Currently a member of the SCAC Executive Committee, Trombley is in line to become chair of the conference's Presidents Council during the 2023-24 academic year.

Trombley is the 16th President of Southwestern University and the first woman to hold the top leadership position at Texas’s oldest university. She began her term as president on July 1, 2020. To view President Trombley's full biography, click here.
