MAGGIE PITCHER OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior goalkeeper from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, February 28th.
Pitcher has helped Centenary stay perfect through four games for the third consecutive season, posting three shutouts in net for the Ladies. She has recorded 16 saves, including five in the win over St. Thomas last Friday to secure three important points in the standings to open league play for Centenary. Pitcher currently leads the SCAC with 16 saves and has an impressive .941 save percentage to start the year.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Meredith Harris of Austin College was stellar in goal for the ‘Roos in a narrow 1-0 loss to Trinity, playing 45 minutes and shutting out the Tigers in the second half. Trinity managed 17 second half shots, including eight on goal, but Harris turned away all attempts in the match. Freshman goalkeeper Macey Henderson of Dallas cemented a shutout in her collegiate debut making six saves in a 1-0 win over Schreiner. Junior defender Sam Davis of Southwestern helped anchor a backline that allowed just one goal in the opening season victory for the Pirates last Sunday. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Bolish of Trinity posted a shutout in the opening half of Saturday's season-opener at Austin College which marked her first career start and victory in goal. She collected a save on the Kangaroos' one good scoring opportunity in the 10th minute.
