EMILY MARKS OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior right side hitter from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 16th through Sunday, September 22nd. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 4)
Marks was spectacular leading Southwestern to its first win over Trinity since 2018, 3-1, on Saturday to open up SCAC play this year. The junior registered a career-high 18 kills on an astounding .429 hitting percentage. Marks averaged 4.5 kills per set and added three block assists for a total of 19.5 points in the win. Marks and the Pirates have won 10 of their first 11 matches for the first time since 2021 and just the second time since 2018.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior right side TJ Folse of Austin College led the 'Roos to a 3-0 weekend, including a pair of conference victories over McMurry and Dallas. Folse led the team with 2.36 kills-per-set while hitting .233 for the week. She also averaged 3.27 digs and had six service aces and three block assists, along with six assists. Junior outside hitter Carolyn Dormady of Colorado College led the Tigers with 15 kills and 17.5 points in the three-set sweep over St. Thomas in the SCAC opener. Her .324 hitting percentage was her third-highest in a match this season. First year outside hitter Brooklynne Fitzgerald of Concordia was outstanding in three matches at the Hendrix Invitational as she was named to the All-Tournament Team. Fitzgerald averaged 4.4 points/set, 3.77 kills/set, and 3.00 digs/set. The freshman tallied two double-doubles, including 19 kills and 16 digs against Rhodes & career-highs of 23 kills and 16 digs in the tournament finale against Hendrix. Senior outside hitter Jacee Dinkins of McMurry had 18 kills (2.57 per set) and hit .294 as the War Hawks split a pair of conference matches over the weekend. She also chipped in with 22 digs. First-year middle blocker Zaria Solis of Texas Lutheran finished with a career-high 14 kills against Schreiner as the Bulldogs went 1-1 on the weekend. First-year middle blocker Taylor Starr of Trinity recorded 11 total kills with a .409 hitting percentage in two games last weekend. In the match against Southwestern, Starr had seven kills with a .313 hitting percentage.
