Francis had a dominant weekend as Austin College hosted and defeated Texas Lutheran, 7-2, in the conference opener for the 'Roos. The junior posted a decisive, 6-3, 6-1 victory over TLU's Elena Branceleon at number one singles to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Ruth Hill of Trinity got her second No. 1 singles victory of her young career Sunday with a 6-2, 6-1 tally in the Tigers' conference-opener at Colorado College. Hill also battled to take five games from her NCAA I adversary at line three against Air Force Saturday. Junior Blair Drought-Villarreal of Schreiner went 2-0 on the week at No. 3 singles, picking decisive 6-1, 6-1 victories in a pair of matches against opponents from East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau, respectively. First-year Lauren Chisholm of Southwestern defeated LeTourneau's Brandy Weems, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles in the Pirates' 9-0 victory on Friday. Junior Anamaria Gonzales of St. Thomas had a stellar outing against her opponent from UMHB, taking her match in two sets and limiting her opponent to a total of four games.
