KENDALL ACCETTA OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior from Portland, Ore., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Wednesday, September 1 and Saturday, September 4. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 1)
Accetta finished 23rd among college athletes at the UCCS Rust Buster, a mostly DII meet. She ran 19:48 for 5k at 6000 feet above sea level and led the Colorado College Tigers for the first time in her career.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Anna Wilgenbusch of Dallas, while running a conservative pace in the heat/humidity, still placed eighth in the meet with a time of 19:06.2 (5k) at the DBU Orville Rogers XC Opener against NAIA/NCAA DII schools. This was the first time she has competed since the NCAA DIII XC National Championships where she was the awarded NCAA DIII All American status. Senior Abby Blackwood of Trinity led the Tigers' women's squad in the UIW Twilight Opener Friday night with an individual sixth-place finish in the 4k event (14:52.1). The reigning SCAC Newcomer of the Year pushed Trinity to a third-place result amongst five NCAA I teams. First-year runner Jocelyn Olivarez of St. Thomas finished in a time of 16:49 over the 4.1 km course at the Texas A&M Invitational. In a field of 64 mostly DI runners, Olivarez was tops among Celt runners with a 47th place finish. Sophomore Caeli Taylor of Texas Lutheran finished 10th at the Concordia (Texas) Tornado Watch Invitational with a time of 21 minutes, 4.9 seconds. All but two runners ahead of her were from the University of Texas, and Taylor played a major role in TLU's third place team finish. Sophomore Laura Carrasco Torres of Southwestern led the Pirates women's cross country team at the University of Colorado at the 14th annual UCCS Rust Buster in the team's season opener. Carrasco Torres finished the 5k course with a time of 22:14.9, setting a new personal-best time.
