JAMES URBINA OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior from Pflugerville, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 2)
Competing at the highly competitive Rice/Nory Hersey Invitational Friday evening, Urbina led the Celts to seventh-place team finish (highest among DIII schools at the meet) against a predominant Division I field. He finishing in 27th place with a time of 17 minutes and 6 seconds, running at an impressive pace of 3 minutes and 17 seconds per kilometer.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Nico Walz of Dallas easily won the University of Dallas XC Invitational, crossing the line with a course PR of 18:30. On one of the most technical and difficult 5k courses, the four-year cross country and track athlete took top honors to help secure a team win against UNT-Dallas.
