VICTORIA POWELL OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a first-year middle blocker from Richmond, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 23 through Sunday, October 29. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 9)

Powell shut hitters down throughout the weekend as TLU swept through the week (4-0) behind 12 total blocks (0.92 per set) from the freshman, which is well above her season average of 0.58 blocks per set. She and the rest of the Bulldogs defense held opponents to a .071 hitting percentage across their four conference wins.

Powell matched her career-high of five blocks (1 solo; 4 assisted) against Dallas on Sunday.

Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive specialist Geneva Nedrow of Southwestern averaged 6.93 digs per set for a total of 97 digs over four games. Her performance this weekend from the service line helped the Pirates to a 3-0 weekend accumulating 10 aces and averaging .79 aces a set. In the Pirates four-set win over Austin College, Nedrow had the highest dig total of the week with 30 and averaged an ace per set in that match. First-year libero Meghan Gannon of Colorado College led the Tigers with 39 digs, including 18 in the three-set sweep over 11th-ranked Trinity, the highest-ranked opponent CC has defeated since #2 Trinity on May 1, 2021, in the 2020-21 SCAC title match. It was also Trinity's first SCAC regular season loss since March 6, 2021, a five-set loss to Colorado College. She also posted a team-high 21 digs in the four-set victory over Schreiner. First-year libero Layne Kovacs of Austin College had one of the most prolific weekends of her young career as the 'Roos played five matches, including three against SCAC opponents. Kovacs totaled 112 digs for an average of 6.22 per-set, and that number increased to 7.11 digs-per-set against SCAC opponents, including 11.0 digs against Texas Lutheran. Junior defensive specialist Kara Spice of St. Thomas posted 81 digs (5.40 digs per set) to lead the Celts to a 3-1 week. She also chipped in offensively with 10 assists and three service aces. Senior libero Nadia Kern of Trinity led the 11th-ranked TU volleyball team to a 1-1 record last weekend, tallying 24 total digs and a pair of aces over the two matches.
