Lauren Sansano, Texas Lutheran University, Player of the Week (Week 9)

LAUREN SANSANO OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior guard from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 6 through Sunday, January 12. SCAC Women's Basketball Release (Week 9)

Sansano led the Bulldogs to a 2-0 weekend including a win over No. 24/25 Colorado College averaging 18.0 points, 6.0 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. She paced the Bulldogs with 19 points against the ranked Tigers and dished out a career-high seven assists. Sansano also moved into the top 10 in the program’s NCAA history in career assists and steals and has scored in double figures in nine straight games.

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year forward Shyanne Phillips of Centenary exploded for a career-high 26 points to lead all scorers in the Ladies' 74-61 win over Dallas at home on Sunday and added a game-high 19 rebounds for an impressive double-double. Her 19 rebounds are tied for the most by a SCAC player in a game this season and tied for the seventh-most in a single game in Ladies' program history. She was 11-17 from the floor and 4-4 at the free-throw line in 30 minutes with a blocked shot and a steal. Phillips entered Sunday's action as the conference's third-leading rebounder, tied for fifth in FT %, and ranked in the top 20 in scoring. She has now reached double figures six times this season and has recorded four double-doubles. Senior center Zoë Tomlinson of Colorado College posted another double-double weekend, averaging 21.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in splitting a pair of road SCAC contests, defeating Southwestern on Friday and falling to Texas Lutheran on Sunday. Tomlinson nabbed her fourth game this season with 25+ points and 15+ rebounds after dishing 27 points and 16 boards against the Bulldogs on Sunday. Senior forward Destiny Mathews of Concordia averaged 25.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals in a pair of highly competitive contests against UMHB and Trinity on the road in SCAC action. Mathews connected on 46.5 percent from the field, highlighted by 27 points in a tough loss at Trinity. Junior guard Kylie Flippin of McMurry lifted the War Hawks to a pair of key SCAC wins over Trinity and Schreiner on the road to open league play. Flippin averaged 12.5 points on 56.3 percent shooting and added 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game in the two wins. Sophomore guard Abby Beene of Ozarks provided another outstanding effort in the Eagles win over Austin College and has helped push the team to its best start since the 1996-97 season. Beene was again efficient shooting the ball going 6-for-6 from the free throw line, 2-for-3 from the three-point line and 7-for-12 from the field ending with 22 points. Beene also dished out three assists and recorded two steals. Sophomore guard Macie Whitfield of St. Thomas delivered another strong week, helping the Celts split a pair of road SCAC games, falling to TLU before knocking off Southwestern. Whitfield averged12.5 points on a remarkable 66.7 percent shooting and added 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Junior guard Kylie Minter of Trinity led the Tigers to a 2-2 overall record last weekend, going 2-1 in SCAC play with wins over Schreiner and Concordia. Minter finished with 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game over the busy week. She opened the week with 19 points and six steals despite playing just 22 minutes in a win over Schreiner. Minter followed that with 15 points and seven rebounds in a narrow loss to No. 13 Hardin-Simmons, hitting 4-of-4 from three-point range. She finished the week with 17 points and a career-high nine assists in a win over Concordia.
