ALYSSA SIMIEN OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore midfielder from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 17th through Sunday, October 23rd. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 8)
Simien netted five goals including her first career hat trick on Sunday against Austin College to lead TLU to a perfect 2-0 weekend. With a team-high 14 goals, she has matched the program record for most goals by a first-year player. This weekend Simien brought her game-winner total to five, third most in a single-season in program history. TLU has now won secured 10 wins for the first time since 2013 and already set a program record for the most SCAC wins in Bulldog history.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Frist-year forward Ashley Esparza of Schreiner scored the lone goal in a 1-0 road win at Centenary last Friday night. The win secured three massive points for the Mountaineers which clinched a top four seed in the SCAC Tournament for the first time since 2016. Esparza now leads the team with six goals on the year. Sophomore forward Samantha Hazen of Southwestern scored once and added an assist in the Pirates’ 3-0 win over Dallas on the road last Sunday. Hazen now sits fifth in the SCAC with 20 points on the year. Senior forward Molly Sheridan of Trinity scored twice in a 3-0 win over St. Thomas last Friday and followed that performance up with a goal in the Tigers’ 4-0 win over Centenary on Sunday. Sheridan’s goal on Sunday was her third game-winning goal of the year and now is tied for first in the SCAC with 16 goals on the season.
