JOE BURCH OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior right-handed pitcher from Geronimo, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, March 14 through Sunday, March 20. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 6
Burch pitched a gem in the Bulldogs SCAC conference opener tossing a complete game with 13 strikeouts, only allowing two runs on six hits. It tied for a career-high in terms of innings pitched (9.0) in a single outing for Burch, and the 13 strikeouts was the first time in his collegiate career he has hit double-digit strikeouts in a single appearance.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior right-hander Cole Grimes of St. Thomas was outstanding in relief last week, picking up a win and a save in two appearances for the Celts. In five innings of work, Grimes accounted for five strikeouts, scattered just five hits and didn’t deliver a walk as he posted an impressive 0.00 ERA last week. Junior left-handed pitcher Samuel Conte of Trinity went 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his two appearances last week, allowing just one earned run over 7.0 innings and recording 11 strikeouts to help the Tigers to an SCAC opening sweep over Southwestern. His best work came in the opening game of Saturday's SCAC doubleheader as he earned the victory in the series clincher against the Pirates. Conte allowed just two hits over 6.0 innings, yielding one earned run and striking out nine batters.
