Trinity Racks up Major Awards in 2022 All-SCAC Women's Soccer Voting

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – In exclusive voting by the head women’s soccer coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Trinity University reaped the awards of an undefeated regular season as a representative from the regular season conference champion Tigers won or shared every major award selected for the 2022 season. Complete Release

Trinity’s Molly Sheridan won a share of the SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year award – splitting the vote with co-winner Alyssa Simien of Texas Lutheran University – and Bailey Meyer of Trinity was voted the SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year for the second consecutive season.

In the same balloting, the Tigers’ Hanna Khan was tabbed the league’s Newcomer-of-the-Year and her head coach, Dylan Harrison, was voted SCAC Women’s Coach-of-the-Year.

Molly Sheridan, a senior forward from St. Louis, Mo., currently leads the league in scoring heading into this weekend’s SCAC Tournament with 18 goals and six assists for 42 points. Sheridan also ranks second in shots (70), shots on goal (37) and third in game-winning goals with four. Heading into the SCAC Tournament, Sheridan is riding a four-game goal scoring streak and has scored a goal in 14 of the Tigers’ 19 matches, including four multiple-goal-performances. Her league-leading 18 goals has helped a prolific Tiger offense that currently has 75 goals on the season, the most of any SCAC team since Trinity scored 108 during the 2017 season.  Sheridan is the 22nd different player in Trinity program history to earn at least a share of the league’s Offensive Player-of-the-Year award going back to 1991.

Alyssa Simien, a sophomore forward from San Antonio, Texas, is right behind Sheridan heading into this weekend’s event, sitting third in the SCAC in both goals scored (15) and points (33). She is second in the league with six game-winning goals and is currently third in shots on goal (36) and shots (51). Simien has scored a goal in nine of her 17 games played, with five multiple goal efforts in helping lead a TLU offense that has reached the 30-goal plateau for the first time since 2015 and the most goals (37) since 2013 we they registered 39. A two-time SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week selection this season, Simien is the second Texas Lutheran player to earn at least a share of the league’s Offensive Player-of-the-Year award, joining Sioned Kirkpatrick who won the honor in 2015.

Sheridan and Simien were the only nominees to receive votes in the Offensive POTY balloting as both received four votes each.

A senior defender from Southlake, Texas, Trinity’s Bailey Meyer anchored a Tiger defensive unit that enters the SCAC Tournament having not allowed a goal since September 16th and posted 14-straight shutouts. Meyer’s efforts have been a major factor in Trinity currently being tied for best in the country, having allowed just two goals all season, including none during SCAC play and first in the nation with a goals-against average of 0.105. In fact, the two goals allowed is currently the fewest in SCAC history, besting the 2004 Trinity team that allowed just three. In total Trinity leads the SCAC with 17 shutouts which is tied for the single most in league history. A two-time SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week selection during the regular season, Meyer has made 63 starts in her career, helping the Tigers post a shutout in 45 of those as she has been key to the team’s defensive efforts not only preventing goal-scoring opportunities, but also by limiting shot selection. This year Meyer has also had her most productive season on the offensive side of the field with four points on a goal and two assists. Since the league first started recognizing the award prior to the 2003 season, Meyer is just the second player in SCAC history to earn back-to-back Defensive Player-of-the-Year recognition. She joins former Trinity standout Kristen Canepa who was honored in back-to-back season in 2018 and 2019.

Meyer received seven first-place votes in Defensive Player-of-the-Year selection process, Schreiner’s Audrey Rivera received the final first-place vote.

Hanna Khan, a first-year forward from Southlake, Texas, has made an immediate impact in San Antonio during her rookie year, providing a spark off the bench for the Tigers. She is currently in the top five of the SCAC in several offensive categories including first in shots on goal (38) and fourth in goals (14), points (32) and shots (58) leading into the SCAC Tournament. Her 14 goals are the most for an SCAC freshman since Stephanie Segovia scored 23 in 2011. A two-time SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week selection, Khan scored in 11 of the Tigers 19 games, including three multigoal efforts. Khan is the first Tiger since 2018 and 10th in program history to earn Newcomer-of-the-Year honors.

Khan received five first-place votes in the Newcomer-of-the-Year voting. Ana Parra of Texas Lutheran with two and Lauren Powell of Southwestern with one represented the remaining three first-place votes.

In his seventh season at the helm of the Trinity program, Dylan Harrison led the Tigers to their 13th SCAC women’s soccer regular season title in the last 14 years, with a perfect 14-0-0 mark. Heading into the SCAC Tournament, this year’s edition of the Tigers has posted the most goals (75) and assists (65) in the conference – which would be the program’s 18th consecutive year to lead the league in both categories. Trinity also has a nation-leading 0.105 GAA average to go along with an SCAC record tying 17 shutouts. The award marks the fourth time in Harrison’s career and the 18th time a Trinity head coach has been named SCAC Women’s Soccer Coach-of-the-Year
