SCOTTIE REYES OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior from Dilley, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, April 4 through Sunday, April 10. (SCAC Track & Field Weekly Release - Week 6)
Reyes continued to improve on his national standings in his throwing events this weekend at the D1-laden Stephen F Austin/Carl Kight Invite. Reyes finished second in the shot put, an event he currently sits fifth in D3 (first in the SCAC), and third in the discus with a new season-best throw of 48.83m (160-2). He is first in the SCAC and 10th in D3 in that event. He also threw a new season-best in the hammer with a toss of 47.52m (155-11), which was good for fifth at the meet and second in the SCAC behind his TLU teammate.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Matthew Hicks of St. Thomas continued to showcase his skills in the high jump, placing sixth overall amongst D1 competition, and second among Division 3 competitors at the Incarnate Word Invitational. Senior Rob Slaybaugh of Trinity set a new personal best and school record in the hammer throw at the UIW Invitational with a mark of 46.95m. This placed fourth at the meet and third in the SCAC. He also took fourth in the discus throw (43.63m) and fifth in the shot put (14.48m).
