TLU's Cauley named First Team Academic All-American

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran graduate Tyler Cauley is a First Team Academic All-American® for the first time and an Academic All-American® for the second time overall. To view the entire CoSIDA First Team All-American® Team, click here

Cauley was named to the 2021 Academic All-America® Baseball First Team for NCAA Division III. Cauley's First Team honor in 2021 goes with his Second Team All-America® award in 2020.
 
Cauley and TLU Softball stand-out Kelly Jurden each were named First Team Academic All-Americans® on Tuesday. Cauley and Jurden give the Bulldogs 50 all-time Academic All-America® honors and 16 all-time First Team Academic All-America® awards.
 
So far in 2021, the Bulldogs have produced four First Team Academic All-Americans® (Mitchell Long of Men's Soccer, Juan Ocampo of Football, Cauley, and Jurden) and five overall Academic All-Americans® (Luis Green of Men's Soccer, Long, Ocampo, Cauley, and Jurden).
 
TLU has produced 18 Academic All-Americans® in the last five years.
 
Since 2000, TLU has produced the most Academic All-Americans® of any NCAA Division III college or university in Texas. TLU ranks in the top 40 nationally among the 435 NCAA Division III colleges and universities for number of Academic All-Americans® since 2000.
 
Cauley was on the national ballot for a third time. Cauley is a three-time Academic All-District® First Team selection. A May graduate of TLU, Cauley earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and his master's degree in accountancy. He posted a 3.59 GPA in his undergraduate studies and a 3.50 GPA in graduate-level courses.
 
The SCAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, Cauley was a First Team All-West Region selection by D3baseball.com and a Second Team All-West Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He also was named the SCAC's Elite 19 award winner for baseball. The award recognizes the top student-athlete at each of the 19 SCAC Championships.
 
This past season, Cauley hit .314 with a career-high 13 home runs. He drove in 48 and scored 43 runs. He also had eight doubles and one triple.
 
Cauley finished his Bulldog career in the university's top-three all-time for home runs (41) and RBIs (199). He had career numbers of .339 for batting average, .455 for on-base percentage, and .646 for slugging percentage.
 
Six of the 34 members of the 2021 Academic All-America® Division III Baseball Teams had a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. The 11 members of the First Team had an average GPA of 3.82 and the 34 student-athletes that make up all three teams had an average cumulative GPA of 3.81.

Nine of this year’s 34 student-athletes on the three teams are repeat honorees from 2020.   

The Division III Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
