SCOTTIE REYES OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a freshman from Dilley, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Monday, March 1 through Sunday, March 7.
Reyes moved into the top two in NCAA Division III in three separate throwing events with performances at the Trinity Invitational. He earned second place overall in the discus with a toss of 141-1, which bested the next Divisiion III competitor by just short of 10 feet (the throw is currently ranked second in all of Division 3). He placed third overall in the men's shot put behind two Division II Angelo State throwers. His toss of 48-6 3/4 is also ranked second overall in Division III. Lastly, he was fourth overall in the hammer throw, again behind only Division II Angelo State competitors. His toss of 156-7 was over 11 feet further than any other Division III competitor in the meet, and the throw currently ranks second overall in Division III.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior Sean Majors of Trinity won the long jump in a new personal-best leap of 7.35m. This is also a new Trinity school record.
