LOUIS HART OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore midfielder from Missouri City, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Monday, September 5th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 1)
Hart was outstanding defensively all weekend from his midfield position as TLU posted three consecutive clean sheets and started the season 1-0-2. It marked the first time since a stretch in September of 2015 that the Bulldogs have posted three consecutive shutouts. Hart help control possession and his poise allowed the Bulldogs to earn results in all three contests to open the 2022 campaign.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalkeeper Sam Borchalli of Centenary recorded a pair of shutouts last weekend, giving him 13 for his career, as the Gents opened the season unbeaten through their opening two fixtures for the first time since 2016. He corralled four saves en route to posting a 1-0-1 record, defeating Dallas Christian, and drawing with Sul Ross State. Freshman goalkeeper Anthony Gonzalez of Dallas was solid in net for the Crusaders last weekend, corralling 12 saves in two wins. Gonzalez opened the season with three saves in a win over LeTourneau before posting nine saves in 2-1 win over East Texas Baptist. Sophomore goalkeeper Kameryn Roehrig of Schreiner made four saves in a tight, 1-0, loss to Hendrix to open the season. Senior goalkeeper Jack Viles of Southwestern open the season in stellar fashion, corralling a league high 15 saves and posting one shutout as the Pirates opened 2022 with a 0-1-1 record. Viles collected nine saves in his shutout against Claremont-M-S on Monday. Sophomore midfielder Hamilton Estrada of St. Thomas helped anchor a Celts defensive effort that surrendered just two goals in a pair of wins to open the season. Estrada showed poise in the midfield, controlling possession, and limiting counter attacks. He also added an assist on the offensive side of the ball. Senior defender JonConnor Rule of Trinity played well all weekend as the Tiger's last line of defense. His efforts helped shutout out Claremont-M-S in the opener, snapping their 23-match regular season win streak. JC also stopped multiple attacks during the Rowan match and even assisted on a goal.
