CARLOS CURA OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Rankin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, October 7 through Saturday, October 8. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 6)
Cura was the first NCAA Division III student-athlete to cross the line at the OLLU Invitational and finished sixth overall in a time of 23:49 along the 4.5 mile course - only 27 seconds out of first place. The top five finishers were mainly Division II athletes and 1 NAIA athlete.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year runner Thomas Melina-Raab of Trinity led Trinity's men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the OLLU Invitational on Friday, trailing only NCAA II Texas A&M International. He completed the 4.56-mile race in 24:07.9, finishing seventh overall among individuals. Junior Nico Walz of Dallas held his own running a PR of 29.19.3 at the Midwestern State/Mustang Open. Competing against athletes from NCAA Division II, NAIA and NJCAA Division 1 programs, Walz ran in nice cool conditions to break his PR by more than 30 seconds.
