KELLY JURDEN OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior outfielder from Brenham, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Hitter-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 11 through Sunday, April 17. SCAC Softball Release - Week 11
Jurden led the Bulldogs offensively in their sweep of University of Dallas, maintaining a .500 batting average, driving in four runs, scoring six runs, and stealing eight bases. She now has 56 stolen bases on the season, which leads all of Division III and is tied for the second-highest single season total in league history.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year third baseman Jaelyn Simmons of St. Thomas showcased her skills at the plate posting a monster 1.111 slugging percentage on the weekend. Among her five hits, the freshman tacked on two doubles and a homerun (batting .556), while also drawing three walks. Senior infielder Maddie Mefford of Southwestern delivered on Senior Day, tying Game 1 of the doubleheader with an RBI and run scored in the fifth inning, then breaking the game open with a three-RBI double in the sixth inning of the Pirates' 6-2 win over Austin College. Mefford finished the week hitting .500 (6-for-12) with a .667 slugging percentage, totaling six RBIs and three runs scored in a 3-0 week. First-year designated player Jessica Lloyd of Trinity hit .286 in the three-game series against St. Thomas, and is now hitting .396 on the year. Junior utility Mallory Stout of Centenary came up in the clutch for the Ladies in their 2-0 win on Senior Day last Saturday as she ripped an RBI triple to left-center in the bottom of the fifth of a scoreless game to score teammate Jaymee Wilkinson for a 1-0 lead as Stout slid in just ahead of the tag by Schreiner 3B Marisa Hernandez. She then scored on a sacrifice fly later in the inning as the Ladies clinched the series with a 2-0 shutout win.
