GREENWOOD, Ind. – Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) men’s soccer student-athletes have been recognized as CoSida Academic All-District for their performances on the pitch and in the classroom. Complete Academic All-District Release

Texas Lutheran student-athletes Mitchell Long and Luis Green, along with St. Thomas’ Tom Hultsch were named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District® 8 First Team.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First Team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First, Second, and Third Team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.

Long earned Academic All-America® honors in the 2019-20 academic year. He has a chance at becoming the 14th multi-year Academic All-American® in TLU history.

Long, a defender, was a four-year letterman and three-year starter for the Bulldogs. He played on four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship tournament-qualifying teams and on the 2019 SCAC Championship squad that qualified for the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship (first round).

Holder of a 4.0 grade point average in kinesiology (exercise science), Long graduated from TLU in May. He was the 2019-20 TLU Junior Year Male Student-Athlete of the Year and the 2020-21 TLU Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Green, a forward, is the three-time SCAC Offensive Player of the Year and a playing All-American. He was the 2020-21 TLU Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

Green holds a 3.48 GPA in business finance. In addition to his on-field exploits, Green has won off the field too – as part of TLU's award-winning Bulldog Investment Company.

Playing in just nine matches in 2021 (because of the shortened season due to COVID-19), Green led the SCAC in points (26), goals (11), points-per-game (2.89), goals-per-game (1.22), game-winning goals (3), and shots on goal (21). He finished third in assists with four.

A two-time SCAC Offensive Player of the Week during the season, Green tied a TLU men's soccer record for goals scored in a match with four in the Bulldogs' 5-1 conference road win over Schreiner on March 27.

Historically, Green's 1.22 goals-per-game is the sixth-best single-season performance in conference history and the highest since 1996.

Green's 2.89 points-per-game ranks third-best all-time in SCAC history, trailing only Oglethorpe's Will Lukow's seasons of 3.26 and 3.00 PPG back in 1992 and 1991.

This year, Green became the first player in SCAC history to lead the league three straight seasons in points, points-per-game, and goals-per-game. He is also just the second athlete in SCAC history to lead the league in goals scored for three straight seasons, joining Trinity's Josh Card, who accomplished the feat from 2000-2002.

Through three seasons, Green has 49 goals in 48 games played for an SCAC all-time best 1.02 goals-per-game. His current career 2.23 points-per-game ranks second all-time in league history.

Hultsch impressed both on the pitch and in the classroom. The senior defender from Luneburg, Germany started every game in his career and was a three-year team captain. In 2019, Hultsch anchored a defense that had the lowest goals against average (0.88) in the entire Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. That same season, he was the SCAC Elite 19 recipient and was tabbed First Team All-Conference.

In 2021, he helped lead the Celts to the SCAC Championship game and was a part of a defense that led the conference in shutouts. In addition to picking up Defensive Player of the Week honors, he was yet again a First Team All-SCAC selection and finished second in voting for the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Hultsch will graduate with a double major in Economics and Finance with a minor in Data Analytics. Through his four years on campus, he posted a cumulative 3.99 GPA. Hultsch has accepted a full-time position with Ernst & Young.

The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
