DALLAS, Texas -- The honors continue to come in for Texas Lutheran’s Joe Jimenez as he was named the Division III National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association. Complete Release
On Monday, Jimenez was named SCAC Hitter-of-the-Week and the following day he was listed on D3baseball.com's national Team of the Week.
Jimenez continued his career-year with a monster week hitting six home runs and tallying 19 RBI on a blistering .647 average, going 11-for-17 at the plate as the Bulldogs posted a perfect 4-0. He also scored 11 runs, walked three times, and slugged a remarkable 1.824 with a .714 on-base percentage. Jimenez is now among the national leaders in home runs and RBI and leads the SCAC with eight and 28 respectively. On Saturday he matched an SCAC and program record with three home runs in a win over ETBU. It marked the 13th time in SCAC history a player has smashed three home runs in a single game.
The junior shortstop is the first SCAC athlete to be recognized by the NCBWA for one of its national weekly awards since Schreiner’s Devin Hooper was named hitter of the week back in February 2020.
Stockton University's Mike Schiattarella was named the National Pitcher-of-the-Week and Harverford College's Anthony Runfola earned National Rookie-of-the-Week.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters, and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates, and official votes in the Dick Howser Player of the Year Award, Regional Player of the Year, and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication contests, and writing contests.
