LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Texas Lutheran was honored as the 2022 Division-III West Regional (Region X) Coaching Staff of the Year, as announced by the NFCA on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' coaching staff consists of head coach Wade Wilson and assistant coaches Olivia Van Hook, James Fuqua, Scott Smith, and Ed Zarzabal.
This is the third consecutive season that Texas Lutheran has won the honor dating back to 2019.
One of 10 coaching staffs to be honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, TLU is now eligible for the National Coaching Staff of the Year award, which will be announced on June 23.
TLU posted a 45-6 record in 2022, finishing first in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and making its third consecutive appearance in the Division-III Women's College World Series. The 45 wins is a new TLU softball program record. The Bulldogs would conclude the season ranked No. 3 in the country in a record breaking season that saw the Bulldogs win 26 straight games during one stretch and break the NCAA team stolen base record - stealing 231 bases on the season. Wilson, who was named the 2022 SCAC Co-Coach of the Year, has guided three NFCA Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year (2019, 2021, 2022). TLU was named the NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year in 2019 following their NCAA Division-III National Championship run.
