BRENDAN BEARD OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior right-hander from Coldspring, Texas has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, April 8 through Sunday, April 14. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 10
Beard went the distance against 14th-ranked Trinity, pitching 9.0 innings and allowing just four hits without a single run to blank the Tigers 5-0 in the series opener Friday evening. The senior struck out four batters and walked three while tossing 161 pitches. Beard is currently ranked in the top five in the SCAC in both ERA (2.01 – fourth) and strikeouts (61 – fourth).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore left-hander Cody Myers of Centenary continued his steady presence for the Gents, working 8.1 innings in a 4-2 road win over St. Thomas on Friday. Myers allowed six hits but just one earned run and one walk with 13 strikeouts. The 13 punchouts ties for the second-most in a single game in program history (in the Division III era / 2012-present). Sophomore right-hander Dylan Krause of Dallas scattered six hits across nine full innings while striking out eleven and walking just one in earning the win over Austin College on Saturday. Krause allowed just three earned runs in the victory over the ‘Roos. Junior right-hander Ryan Corbett of Southwestern collected a pair of back-to-back wins last week at home in helping secure a SCAC series sweep over Schreiner. He allowed just six hits and two walks over a combined six innings of work, while allowing two runs. Junior right-hander Jack Briese of Trinity secured two wins in relief to lead the 14th-ranked Tigers to victories over McMurry on Tuesday and Texas Lutheran on Sunday. Briese pitched 8.0 innings in relief last week, striking out ten batters and allowing just seven total hits. He struck out six over 3.1 innings to earn the midweek win over McMurry, then pitched the final 4.2 innings of the series clincher against Texas Lutheran.
