KELLY JURDEN OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior outfielder from Brenham, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Hitter of the Week for games played from Monday, March 8 through Sunday, March 14.
Jurden hit .588 with eight runs scored and 10 stolen bases in the Bulldogs 4-1 week that included a 3-0 conference series sweep of Southwestern. Jurden stole four bases in a March 10 victory over Concordia Texas. She tied the school record for steals in a game and tied her own career mark. She shares the single-game steals record with three other former Bulldogs (Kaymee Gooden, Kyla Lockley and Natalie Suciu). Jurden had a hit in all five games last week, and she had four multi-hit contests, including three two-hit games and one three-hit game. She went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a double in the series finale against Southwestern. In the series with the Pirates, Jurden hit .600 with seven runs scored and five stolen bases.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman infielder Cambry Bates of Centenary belted her first-career home run, a go-ahead three-run shot, in the top of the sixth to propel the Ladies to a comeback win in game two of a DH versus Hardin Simmons last Saturday. Her game-winning homer was the highlight of a weekend in which she went 7-18 at the plate with three RBI, a run scored, and a pair of multi-hit games. Freshman middle infielder Ariana Brown of St. Thomas led the way at the plate for the Celts last week, batting .467 (7-15) with three multi-hit games. She finished with week with one RBI, one stolen base, a .500 on-base percentage and a .467 slugging percentage.
