NOEL PENA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior goalkeeper from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week from Tuesday, September 5th through Sunday, September 10th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 2)
Pena continues to shine for the undefeated Bulldogs, leading TLU to a pair of shutout victories last weekend on the road against UMHB, 2-0, and Concordia, 1-0. He played all 180:00 minutes in net for TLU, corralling nine saves, including a season-high five in the victory over UMHB. Pena currently leads the SCAC with three shutouts, a .929 save percentage and a 0.25 goals-against average, while his 13 total saves on the year are tied for second best in the league.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Casey Clemo of Centenary recorded his first-career shutout in the Gents' 2-0 win over Mississippi University for Women at home last Friday. He played all 90 minutes and made a pair of saves. Clemo finished the weekend with three saves and two wins after leading Centenary to a 5-2 win over Huntingdon on Sunday. Sophomore defender Rex Karjian of Colorado College helped the Tigers allow just two goals in their two games last weekend, a 4-1 victory over Wilmington and a 1-1 draw with 13th-ranked Ohio Northern. Senior goalkeeper Cristo Gayoso of St. Thomas locked down a Celt defense that allowed just one goal and added a shutout in a pair of wins last week. Gayoso collected six saves, playing all 180:00 minutes in wins over Concordia and UMHB. Senior defender Jesus Veloz of Trinity led the Tigers to a pair of home victories last weekend, defeating UT-Dallas 4-1 and Whitman 3-1. Veloz provided two assists over the two games, including an assist on the game-winning goal against UTD on Friday night.
