JONAS CEBALLOS OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a pitcher from McKinney, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, March 4 through Sunday, March 10. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 5
Ceballos was lights out for Austin College in his lone appearance last week, throwing a complete game, seven-inning shutout over visiting Blackburn. Ceballos earned the win after giving up just three hits, with two of those coming in the final inning, while striking out 13 batters against only one walk. Ceballos finished the game with a 0.57 WHIP and a 16.71 strikeouts-per-nine rate.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior right-hander Brendan Beard of Texas Lutheran was stout in his first relief appearance of the season, striking out six batters in just 2.1 innings of work. Beard willed the Bulldogs to a 9-4 victory over Rensselaer not allowing a single runner on base in his relief appearance. Senior right-hander Michael Boeke of Trinity had a big performance at home in an 11-5 victory over DeSales in his lone appearance last week. In 6.2 innings of work, Boeke allowed one hit and struck out a career-high 15 batters. Junior pitcher Greg Ferguson of Southwestern led the Pirates with 11 strikeouts in six innings of work. Ferguson also was outstanding in relief in the final game of the weekend, with five strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work. Sophomore right-hander Dylan Krause of Dallas tossed a complete game for the Crusaders with ten strikeouts and just one run allowed over seven innings of work in Saturday’s 11-1 victory over Neb. Wesleyan.
