TLU's Spencer; Trinity's Cusenbary named SCAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Texas Lutheran junior outside hitter Vanecia Spencer and Trinity junior middle blocker Erin Cusenberry have been named SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week for Week Two of the season.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 3 – September 8

VANECIA SPENCER OF TEXAS LUTHERAN, a junior outside hitter from Grandview, Texas has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 3 through Sunday, September 9

Spencer came up huge time and time again for the Bulldogs, helping Texas Lutheran to a 3-1 showing at the California Lutheran Invitational.

She opened up the first day at the tournament by recording 27 kills in two matches. She recorded 16 kills in the tournament opener against Hendrix. In the nightcap 3-2 win over Pomana-Pitzer Colleges, Spencer once again led the team in kills with 11. She was the only Bulldog to finish in double-digits.

The next day, Spencer led the Bulldogs in an upset over No. 18 Chapman. She tallied 19 kills against Chapman, making only two attack errors and hitting .330. She finished the tournament with nine more kills against No. 10 California Lutheran.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outside hitter Shelby Eaves of Austin College continued her strong start to the season, averaging 4.38 kills and 2.15 digs per set with a .214 hitting percentage, and also added six service aces in four matches at the Austin College Classic over the weekend. Freshman outside hitter Abby Holtze of Colorado College hit .316 and averaged 3.17 kills and 3.42 points per set en route to a MVP at the Molten Volleyball Colorado College Classic  Junior right side hitter Emily Caple of Dallas had 45 kills and 44 assists to lead the Crusaders. Sophomore middle blocker Olivia Drummond of Southwestern hit over .200 in all matches this weekend and posted an unbelievable .875 attack percentage against Sul Ross (7-0-8). Senior middle hitter Veronica Castillo of Schreiner  had 28 kills, 8 errors, in 69 attempts for a .290 attack pct. on the weekend that included an 11 kill  match vs. UC-Santa Cruz where she had a .318 attacking percentage. Junior outside hitter Maggie Emodi of Trinity continued her strong season with an impressive .301 hitting percentage including 48 kills and 55 digs.

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 3 – September 8

ERIN CUSENBARY OF TRINITY UNIVRESITY, a junior middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 3 through Sunday, September 9.

Cusenbary led the Tigers to a 4-1 weekend on the road, finishing 3-1 at the Randolph-Macon Invitational.

Cusenbary recorded 30 blocks in the five matches, averaging 2.00 blocks/set in her 15 sets played. She finished strong, collecting a season-best 10 blocks against both Averett and Randolph-Macon to cap the weekend.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defensive specialist Rachel Fusselman of Austin College totaled 42 digs for an average of 3.23 per set, both team-highs, in four matches over the weekend and had only three reception errors. Sophomore libero Sophie Merrifield of Colorado averaged 5.75 digs per set to help Colorado College claim the 2013 Molten Volleyball Colorado College Classic with four consecutive 3-0 victories. Senior libero Jamie Burns of Schreiner had 73 digs (18.25 dpg) for Schreiner with a 31 dig performance against Pomona-Pitzer. Sophomore outside hitter Kaitlyn Foster of Southwestern led the Pirates with 59 digs during the weekend. Junior libero Megan  Lee of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs defensively in digs including an upset win over No. 18 Chapman. Centenary and Dallas did not nominate anyone.
